What are the popular weight training programs used in college?

Hey folks, I'm trying to prepare for my freshman year in college and I'm looking to maintain, if not improve my gym routine. Seeing that I might not have as much time, I want to have a more focused workout. Are there any popular weight training software or programs that colleges or college students use? I'd love to hear your recommendations. Thanks!

Hello, it seems like you're really committed to staying fit during college, which is great! Many college students find benefits from exercise routines like weight lifting, both for physical wellness and stress relief.

There is a variety of weight training programs commonly used by college students, and luckily many of these are flexible and can be scaled to match your available time and fitness level. Here are a few examples:

1. StrongLifts 5x5: This is a popular program that focuses on five core barbell exercises: squats, deadlifts, bench presses, overhead presses, and barbell rows. You follow a rotating schedule, working out three times a week.

2. The Starting Strength Program: This program, designed by Mark Rippetoe, is also a basic barbell routine with a focus on linear progression, meaning that you aim to add weight to the bar each session.

3. Push/Pull/Legs (PPL) Split: This is a popular choice among those who can commit around six days a week to weight training. You split your workout into three days: one for pushing exercises (like bench press and shoulder press), one for pulling exercises (like rows and pull-ups), and one for leg exercises.

All of these training programs have associated apps or websites that can guide you through the process by providing workout trackers, instructional videos, and progress charts. So you can select one based on your comfort level, time availability, and fitness goals.

While these are standalone programs, keep in mind that many colleges also offer fitness classes or personal training sessions at their recreational centers. These can be a great way to learn techniques, stay motivated, and adjust your routine as necessary with the guidance of a professional.

Remember, consistency is key with any fitness regime. Give yourself time to adjust to any new program and remember to take rest days seriously as well. Best of luck with your fitness journey in college!
