Small Colleges = Big Prestige?

I've been thinking about applying to some smaller colleges because I enjoy the idea of smaller class sizes and a more individualized education. But my worry is about the prestige. Are there smaller colleges out there that are considered quite prestigious? Can anyone help me list some?

Absolutely! There are many small colleges that are highly prestigious. These types of schools are referred to as liberal arts colleges, and they focus on providing a well-rounded education, often with emphasis on personalized attention and small class sizes.

1. Amherst College in Massachusetts is a prime example. It's known for its rigorous academic program and commitment to a diverse student body.

2. Williams College, also in Massachusetts, is another excellent choice. It too is highly-ranked and offers a diverse array of academic programs. Williams operates on a unique tutorial system, similar to Oxford and Cambridge, where students study in pairs and meet weekly with their professor.

3. Pomona College in California and Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, both part of the esteemed "Little Ivies", are great examples as well.

4. Bowdoin College in Maine and Middlebury College in Vermont are renowned for their strong undergraduate programs in arts and sciences.

5. Carleton College in Minnesota is noted for its emphasis on collaborative learning, while Claremont McKenna College in California is known for its strong programs in economics, political science, and international relations.

6. Wellesley College in Massachusetts, a women's college, is renowned for producing successful women leaders, including Hillary Clinton.

So yes, there's plenty of prestige to be found at smaller colleges! Remember it's not size but the quality of the education and the fit for you that will matter the most.
