What are the most storied college football rivalries in Iowa?

So I'm from Iowa, and college football is a HUGE deal here. I'm trying to do some research on which colleges in Iowa have the most storied football rivalries. Think epic rivalries, generations-long grudges, the ones that stir up the state. Any thoughts?

In terms of storied college football rivalries in Iowa, two key matchups come to mind: the Iowa State Cyclones vs. the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, known as the Cy-Hawk Series, and the match between Wartburg College and Luther College, a rivalry that's mainly a big deal for Division III fans.

The Cy-Hawkt Series is the biggest college football rivalry in the state, no doubt. These two programs, representing the two major universities in Iowa, compete in what's officially the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series, a contest sponsored by the Iowa Corn promotion board. The rivalry officially began in 1894, but it took a 43-year hiatus from 1934 to 1977. Since then, it's been an annual fixture with fans from both sides passionately supporting their teams.

On a smaller scale, there's the rivalry between Wartburg College and Luther College, colloquially known as The Battle for the Troll. These two NCAA Division III teams have been duking it out every year since 1936, except during World War II. In this rivalry, the winner takes home a wooden troll trophy, hence the nickname. There might not be as many spectators compared to the Cy-Hawk series, but the passion and spirit are definitely there.

Remember, college football isn't just about the game itself; it's a celebration of school spirit, camaraderie, and historic traditions. Both of these rivalries embody this beautifully. So, whether you're a fan of the Cyclones, Hawkeyes, Knights, or Norse, you're sure to enjoy all the excitement these yearly clashes bring.
