Choice of Horticulture Textbooks

Super into gardening stuff and thinking about turning that passion into a major. Do any of you know what the most used textbook for college horticulture courses is? Would love to get my hands on it early.

It's wonderful that you're eager to delve deeper into your passion for horticulture! Typically, the choice of textbooks varies according to the specific course and the professor teaching it. However, some commonly used textbooks in horticulture curricula include:

1. "Introduction to Horticulture" by Charles Adams. This comprehensive textbook provides an overview of horticulture, including plant physiology, propagation, and soil management. It's an excellent starting point for anyone interested in the field.

2. "Plant Science: Growth, Development, and Utilization of Cultivated Plants" by Margaret McMahon, and Anton Kofranek. This textbook dives into the science behind plant growth and offers detailed information on various plant species, their uses, and how to cultivate them effectively.

3. "The Science of Gardening" by David Whiting. This book is geared towards beginners interested in horticulture science and covers a wide range of topics, including soils, fertilizers, and pests.

Remember, though, course materials are subject to change, and different professors might use different textbooks. It could be beneficial to reach out to colleges you are interested in and ask them for recommended reading for their horticulture program. Often universities will be happy to provide a list of resources or recommended readings for prospective students.

Lastly, don't limit yourself to just textbooks. The world of horticulture is vast and learning can come from many resources, including online courses, blogs, webinars, and hands-on experience!
