Success from College Walk-Ons

Hey everyone, recently found out about the concept of 'college walk-ons'. It sounds super tough, but apparently, some walk-ons have really killed it. Does anyone know of the most successful stories and perhaps what made these individuals stand out?

Sure, there are quite a few inspirational stories of college walk-ons finding success in various sports. Here are a few examples:

1. Baker Mayfield: A walk-on at Texas Tech, he became the team's starting quarterback as a freshman before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where he had to walk on again. Mayfield became an integral part of the team at Oklahoma and ultimately won the Heisman Trophy before being drafted as the number one overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, which is quite an accomplishment for someone who had to prove himself not once, but twice.

2. Jordan Kovacs: Kovacs was a walk-on at the University of Michigan, making the football team through a student body tryout. Despite recurring knee issues, he excelled and became a team captain and key player in Michigan's defensive unit. He later played four seasons in the NFL.

3. Rudy Ruettiger: The inspiration for the movie "Rudy," Ruettiger was a walk-on at Notre Dame. Despite his small size and limited athletic ability, his relentless effort and spirit won him a place on the Notre Dame football team. Ruettiger's story is one of determination, and his eventual play in the final home game of his senior year remains a legendary part of Notre Dame's history.

These athletes all share a few common qualities: an unwavering belief in their abilities, a tireless work ethic, willingness to learn and improve, and the ability to seize an opportunity when it presented itself. Their determination and grit allowed them to overcome obstacles and prove themselves on the field.
