Targeting Selective Colleges in Maryland

Hi folks! I'm a junior in high school and I'm exploring colleges in Maryland for my applications next year. Could anyone shed light on which colleges are the most selective in Maryland? It's a long shot, but it's sort of my goal to aim high. Thanks!

Hey there! Good for you for aiming high! Maryland has a number of highly selective schools that might be of interest. First up would be Johns Hopkins University, located in Baltimore. It's renowned for its programs in fields such as medicine, engineering, and international relations. It's a top-tier institution with a very low acceptance rate making it one of the most selective schools not only in Maryland, but in the entire country.

Another selective institution in Maryland is the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, which provides undergraduate training to officers of the U.S. Navy and Marines. Admission is extremely competitive, with candidates needing a nomination from a senator or representative just to apply.

Finally, there's the University of Maryland, College Park. While it's a larger public institution and not as selective as Johns Hopkins or the Naval Academy, it's still considered a Public Ivy and has competitive programs in fields like computer science and business.

Remember that selecting a college should not be solely based on selectiveness or prestige, but also about the best fit for you, including factors like location, size, academic programs, culture, and cost. Good luck with your college search!
