Underrated California Colleges

I'm a Californian junior doing my research on colleges. The UCs and Stanford are great and all but, I think I would like to look into some underrated options too. Any suggestions for the most underrated colleges in California?

Absolutely! There are many excellent "hidden gem" colleges in California that might appeal to you. Let me share a few potential options:

1. Pomona College: This small liberal arts college located in Claremont is often overlooked but has a rigorous academic program, beautiful campus, and a close-knit community. The student-faculty ratio is impressively low and students often rave about the collaborative, not competitive, environment.

2. California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO): Known for its "learn by doing" philosophy, Cal Poly SLO has well-regarded programs in business, architecture, engineering, and agriculture. It offers a great balance of robust academics with a laid-back campus culture.

3. Loyola Marymount University: Located in Los Angeles, it's an excellent choice for students interested in film, business, or social sciences. A Jesuit-inspired institution, LMU emphasizes service and social justice, while also benefiting from strong industry connections.

4. University of Redlands: This small liberal arts university has fantastic programs in business, education, and the arts. It also offers a unique "Johnston Center for Integrative Studies" where students can create their own major.

5. Santa Clara University: It's located in the heart of Silicon Valley and is especially strong in business and engineering. Students love the small class sizes, the Jesuit influence on the campus culture, and the opportunities to get involved in community service.

Remember, it's all about finding the right fit. Consider what factors are most important to you - the size of the school, location, available majors, campus culture, etc. I encourage you to visit the campuses (if possible) or attend virtual tours/information sessions to get a sense of each school's unique vibe.
