What are the changes to the SAT for the 2023-2024 cycle?

Hey everyone! I'm starting to plan out my SAT study schedule and I heard there might be changes to the SAT format coming soon. Can someone fill me in on what changes are expected for the 2023-2024 cycle? Curious to know how it might affect my prep plan. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! Great question, it's smart to be thinking ahead about your prep.

The College Board announced that starting in 2024, the SAT will be administered digitally. This means that instead of paper and pencil, you'll be taking the SAT on a computer.

The length of the test is being shortened to around 2 hours (versus the current 3-hour test), and the reading passages will be shorter with only one question per passage. Moreover, calculators will be allowed throughout the math section. The scoring scale will remain the same.

While you should continue to focus on the content knowledge required for the SAT, you might want to incorporate some digital practice tests into your study to get comfortable with the new format! There are plenty of resources available online to help simulate the digital testing experience. Happy studying!
