Expectations for College Life

I've been daydreaming about college life lately and I wanted to ask, what were you guys most excited about when you were preparing for college? Insights from current/ex students appreciated!

There's so much to be excited about when you're preparing for college. For many students, college represents independence, growth, and the chance to meet a diverse set of individuals with varied experiences and perspectives.

One aspect that lots of students get excited about is the intellectual stimulation that college offers. You'll be able to explore your interests in-depth and discover new passions in your classes. This isn’t simply about graded coursework. Whether your interest is in anthropology, biochemistry, literature, or sociology, you'll be learning from professors who are experts in their fields, which can yank your horizons wider in wonderful, unexpected ways.

Many students are also excited about exploring new activities, clubs, or sports. Whether it's debating on the student government, playing on a sports team, writing for the college newspaper, participating in theater productions, joining an a cappella group, or doing community service, there’s countless ways for you to spend your free time. Becoming actively involved in club activities not only provides social opportunities, but can also give you leadership experiences, beneficial in both personal and professional life.

Living independently from parents is another thrilling part of college to look forward to. With this comes an opportunity to form a new routine, manage your own time, and navigate both academic and personal life independently. It's a learning experience!

On that note, forming friendships is one of the most exciting parts of college. You'll meet people from all over the world, each bringing their own unique ideas and experiences into the mix. Some of these friends may end up being lifelong connections.

Lastly, do not forget about the future career opportunities! Internships, research opportunities, work-study programs, and study abroad experiences provide not only academic and career exposure, but also invaluable life experiences.

So, unsurprisingly, there is plenty to daydream about when it comes to college! Just remember to enjoy the journey and take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. College contains multitudes – it's a place where you can learn and grow in so many ways.
