Which colleges are the most LGBT friendly?

Hi all, I'm currently a junior doing some preliminary college searches and I'd really like to consider attending a school that's going to be supportive and inclusive of my identity as an LGBT student. Are there any colleges that are known to be particularly supportive or have a strong sense of community? Thanks for your suggestions!

Absolutely! I'm glad to see you're considering inclusivity and supportive communities as important factors in your college search. Many colleges and universities emphasize the importance of diversity and inclusion and have made substantial efforts in recent years to foster welcoming environments for LGBT+ students. While it's key to look into any college's LGBTQ+ resources and support system individually, here are a few schools renowned for being particularly supportive:

1. University of California, Berkeley: UC Berkeley is known for its progressive atmosphere and strong support for LGBTQ+ students. The school has a Gender Equity Resource Center which provides resources and organizes events dedicated to fostering inclusive spaces.

2. University of Maryland, College Park: Their LGBT Equity Center offers an LGBT studies program, Lavender Leadership Honor Society, and a wide array of other programs and resources to help build community and support their students.

3. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT): MIT has the Rainbow Lounge which hosts events and programs for the community, and their LBGTQ+ Services provide support for students as well.

4. Tufts University: This institution also stands out for its LGBT Center which offers a safe and welcoming environment for queer and trans students.

5. The University of Wisconsin - Madison: This university has the Gender and Sexuality Campus Center, offering educational, outreach, and advocacy programs.

6. University of Pennsylvania (UPenn): UPenn's LGBTQ+ Center offers robust support services and engagement opportunities for students.

7. Stanford University: The school's Queer Student Resources aim to provide a "unified voice" in advocacy for LGBTQ+ students.

Remember, these are just a few examples. Be sure to research individual schools' resources, reach out with any questions you might have, and, if you can, try to speak with current students. This can give you a better sense of what each school's climate and community is really like. Best of luck in your college search!
