Scoping Out D1 Colleges

I'm an athlete hoping to go D1 in college, and I was wondering - which states have the most Division 1 schools? I'd like to apply in states where there are more options for me.

Given that you're looking to participate in Division I athletics, expanding your search to states with more DI schools is a sound plan. In general, the states with the most Division I schools tend to be the ones with larger populations.

As of the most recent count, the top five states with the most Division I schools are:

1. New York, with 23 DI colleges

2. Texas, housing 21 DI institutions

3. California, featuring 20 DI schools

4. Florida, having 13 DI colleges

5. Ohio, home to 13 DI institutions

These data clearly indicate that the states with the most options for potential D1 athletes are New York, Texas, and California. Florida and Ohio round out the top five, but with significantly fewer options compared to the top three. It's important to keep in mind that not every DI college might offer the sport you play, so delve deeper into which of these DI schools have teams in your sport. Try to target your applications towards states and universities that match both your athletic abilities and academic goals. Applying strategically will serve to increase your chances of finding the right fit.

Good luck with your applications and future athletic endeavors!
