Unique American Colleges

Hi everyone! I'm looking to apply to colleges and I'm particularly interested in institutions that are unique in some way - whether that's their campus, philosophy, programs, etc. What are some of the most unique colleges in America that I should look into?

Sure, there are plenty of unique colleges in America that stand out from the crowd in various ways. I'll list a few here:

1. Deep Springs College, located in California's high desert, is a two-year institution that enrolls only about 25-30 students. The school is unique because it blends academic study with manual labor and leadership responsibilities as part of the learning experience. After two years, many of its students go on to complete their degrees at other elite institutions.

2. Colorado College follows a unique "Block Plan." Rather than taking multiple classes at a time, students take one class at a time for 3.5 weeks each. This system allows for intensive study and hands-on experiential learning in each course.

3. Olin College of Engineering in Massachusetts has a hands-on, project-based curriculum, and every admitted student is awarded a half-tuition scholarship for all four years. Olin puts a heavy emphasis on entrepreneurship and has a mandatory business course for all first-year students.

4. Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) offers more degree programs and specializations than any other art and design university in the U.S. It's widely recognized for its professional preparation in arts and design fields.

5. Warren Wilson College in North Carolina requires all residential students to participate in its Work Program. This emphasizes experiential learning by marrying academics, work, and community engagement.

6. St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland and Santa Fe, New Mexico, have a unique "Great Books" program where students read and discuss the foundational works of western civilization instead of taking courses with textbooks.

Remember, "unique" can mean different things to different people, so I'd strongly recommend taking some time to think about what aspects of the college experience are most important to you, then look for schools that align with those preferences.
