What's the most historic university for college football?

I'm a huge fan of college football and I'd love to go to a school with a rich history in the sport. Does anyone have any suggestions about which universities have significant history in college football?

You're in luck, college football is steeped in tradition and there are many schools with rich histories in the sport. Here are a few examples:

1. University of Michigan: With its first season in 1879, Michigan has one of the most storied histories in college football. The Wolverines also boast the highest winning percentage in college football history and numerous national championships. Also noteworthy is their long-standing rivalry with Ohio State, a highlight of the college football calendar.

2. University of Notre Dame: Known for its "Fighting Irish" spirit, Notre Dame has been a powerhouse since the early 1900s. It has numerous national championships under its belt and has produced multiple Heisman Trophy winners. The school's storied history includes legendary coaches like Knute Rockne and the team has been a leading feature of college football for many decades.

3. University of Alabama: Alabama’s Crimson Tide has been one of the most dominant teams in recent years, with a remarkable record of national championships. The legendary Bear Bryant coached the Tide and they continue to be a top program today under Nick Saban.

4. University of Texas: Texas football is synonymous with tradition. Since the 1930s, the Longhorns have been a constant national championship contender. Their matchup with Oklahoma during the annual Red River Showdown is a must-watch. Note: The University of Texas has recently moved to the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Remember, the college experience encompasses so much more than just athletics though. Be sure to consider academic programs, campus culture, location, and financial feasibility when making your final decision!
