How popular is Gender Studies in college?

I've always had an interest in Gender Studies and I'm thinking about taking it in college. But I'm a tad curious about how popular it actually is among college students. Do a lot of students take Gender Studies classes or is it more of a niche subject? Any input from current or past students would be appreciated.

Gender Studies, as with any field of study, has a varied level of interest among college students. Across the many universities and colleges, you'll find a varying degree of enrollment in Gender Studies programs.

From an aggregate perspective, Gender Studies might not boast the same popularity as some of the more traditional majors like Business, Psychology, or Biology, for example. However, this does not mean it's unimportant or overlooked by students. Many individuals choose to study Gender Studies either as a major, minor, or as part of their elective coursework due to its relevancy and the unique perspective it provides on society, culture, and identity.

Plus, it's important to note that popularity of a major doesn't necessarily determine its value. What really matters is your personal interest, commitment to the subject, and how it aligns with your future career goals or academic pursuits. Gender Studies can provide many transferable skills like critical thinking, understanding of social issues, and communication among others, which can be valuable in various career fields.

Also, remember that some students might explore Gender Studies topics through double-majoring or combining it with another discipline like Sociology, International Relations, Law, or Public Policy - further increasing its prevalence among student populations.

Just some food for thought! Make sure to explore the program in detail at the colleges you're interested in, ideally talking to students in the program or professors if you have the opportunity.
