Universities that have the most alumni astronauts

Hello! I aspire to venture into the realms of space one day. Any ideas on which universities have trained the most astronauts? This crucial piece of information would significantly help me in making my college decisions, thanks in advance!

Certainly! Based on historical records, a few American universities have graduated a notable number of NASA astronauts.

The United States Naval Academy, for instance, has produced the most astronauts, with a total of 55 alumni that have gone on to become astronauts. Similarly, the United States Air Force Academy has produced over 40 astronauts.

In terms of civilian universities, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, and the University of Colorado Boulder stand out. They have each produced 44, 26, and 19 astronauts respectively.

Another noteworthy mention is Purdue University in Indiana, famously known as the "Cradle of Astronauts". It boasts 27 alumni astronauts, including Neil Armstrong and Eugene Cernan, the first and last astronauts to walk on the moon, respectively.

While attending one of these universities isn't the only path to a career as an astronaut, having a robust STEM-focused curriculum and strong ties to the U.S. military and NASA can give aspiring astronauts a leg up. However, keep in mind that becoming an astronaut also requires experience in high-stress environments, postgraduate education or equivalent experience, and physical and psychological resilience. It's a long journey, but an exciting one—best of luck!
