Most Progressive College Campuses

Progressive values are really important to me, and I'd like that reflected in the college I attend. Can anyone point me towards universities that have the most progressive campuses and courses?

Certainly, many colleges across the U.S. are known for their progressive environments, diverse student bodies, and inclusive policies. Here are a few that are generally recognized for such attributes:

1. University of California, Berkeley: Known as the birthplace of the Free Speech Movement in the 1960s, UC Berkeley regularly tops lists of the most liberal universities in the United States. The campus hosts many social justice groups, and the curriculum includes various departments dedicated to studies involving race, gender, and social equality.

2. Oberlin College: Oberlin College, in Ohio, was one of the first colleges in America to admit African American students and women, setting a progressive tone that continues to this day. The college regularly promotes sustainability, social justice, and diversity, and it's known for its creative and inclusive community.

3. Brown University: Ivy League institution Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island, is recognized for its liberal and progressive student body. The university has an "Open Curriculum," which allows students to take courses across various departments, encouraging academic breadth and intellectual exploration.

4. Wesleyan University: Wesleyan University in Connecticut is known for both its rigorous academics and its culture of activism. It's often associated with progressive politics and is recognized for its vibrant queer community.

5. The New School: Located in New York City, The New School offers liberal, socially conscious, and design-oriented programs. Its student body is diverse and politically aware.

These are just a few examples, and many other colleges and universities offer inclusive, liberal environments and a wide range of social justice-oriented courses. It’s a good idea to look into each school's individual policies, Centre for Social Justice or equivalent organizations, and course offerings because the overall culture can significantly vary. Make sure to take into account other factors that are important to you in a college experience as well!
