Campus Health - What's Most Common?

In a growing attempt to stay healthy, I have been wondering: What's the most common health issue among college students? I assume it's stress related or due to late-night munchies! Let me know!

You're on the right track! Mental health concerns, particularly stress and depression, are quite prevalent among college students. Lack of sleep, pressure to excel academically, and the social changes that come with college life all contribute to stress levels. Indeed, the American College Health Association report from 2020 stated that about 60% of students surveyed felt overwhelming anxiety, while nearly 40% felt so depressed they had difficulty functioning.

Additionally, unhealthy eating and insufficient exercise are common due to busy schedules and the availability of fast food, which can lead to weight issues and a lack of proper nutrition.

But don't despair—most colleges have resources available to help students manage these issues. There are often on-campus therapists or counseling services and fitness centers available to students. It can also be beneficial to establish a routine that includes healthy eating and sleep habits, regular exercise, and some self-care activities.

Remember, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about finding a balance that enables you to feel good and perform well academically. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you find it difficult to manage stress or other health issues.
