What's the most expensive high school sport to participate in?

Hey all. So I'm really into sports, but my budget is kinda tight. I'm curious to know which high school sport is typically the priciest to get into, considering equipment, travel, and any other necessary costs. Any insight would be appreciated!

In terms of expenses, the costliest high school sports tend to be those that require a lot of specialized equipment or access to specific facilities. While each school could be different based on local cost and resource availability, high-cost sports generally tend to be:

1. Football: The cost of pads, helmets, cleats, uniform, and other ancillary equipment can surmount to a significant amount.

2. Hockey: Hockey can also be expensive due to costs associated with skates, protective gear, sticks, and the potential for rink fees.

3. Lacrosse: Lacrosse requires equipment such as sticks, gloves, elbow pads, shoulder pads, and a helmet, which can become quite costly.

4. Equestrian: If your school offers an equestrian team, this can be one of the most expensive sports. There are costs associated with riding lessons, lease or ownership of a horse, equipment, and competition entry fees.

5. Skiing/Snowboarding: These winter sports may require a substantial investment for equipment like boots, skis or boards, poles, and attire suitable for cold weather. Furthermore, lift tickets and travel to mountains or ski resorts for races can add to the cost.

If you are concerned about the cost, you might want to consider sports that have lower initial equipment costs like cross-country, track and field, soccer, basketball, or swimming (given the school provides the pool). However, please keep in mind that private coaching, out-of-season league play and traveling for tournaments can make any sport expensive. Also remember, some schools have equipment loan or donation programs, so it's always worth a chat with a coach or school official about available resources to aid students.
