Most common high school entrance exams?

I'll be moving to a new area soon and will most likely need to take an entrance exam for my new high school. Does anyone know what the most common tests are so I can start to prepare?

The most common high school entrance exams that you might encounter are the SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test), ISEE (Independent School Entrance Examination), and the HSPT (High School Placement Test).

The SSAT is primarily used by private schools. It includes verbal, quantitative (math), and reading comprehension sections. The test also includes an unscored essay that schools can review to assess a student's writing skills.

The ISEE is another test often utilized by private schools. It has verbal and quantitative reasoning sections, along with reading comprehension and mathematics achievement sections. Similar to the SSAT, the ISEE also includes an unscored essay.

The HSPT is frequently used by Catholic schools. It covers language, math, quantitative skills, reading, and science. It also might include optional sections on mechanical aptitude and Catholic religion.

To prepare, I'd recommend finding some practice tests for each exam, which can give you a feel for the kinds of questions you'll encounter and help you determine which areas you might need to review. You can find practice tests and prep materials online, through test prep companies, or at your local bookstore.

Keep in mind that while these are the most common, the high school you're applying to may use a different exam or even have their own unique test. It's crucial to check with the specific school or schools you're considering.
