Which country has the toughest college entrance process?

Hey everyone, I've been reading a lot about university admissions around the world, and I'm curious. Does anyone know which country is considered to have the most competitive college admissions process? I've heard Asian countries can be quite competitive, but I'm unsure.

In terms of highly competitive college admissions, some East Asian countries are often cited as having the most intense processes. Among them, South Korea and China stand out — both for their sheer population size and the immense cultural importance attached to education.

In China, the Gaokao exam, a nine-hour test spread over two days, stands between students and entry to university. Gaokao is taken by millions of Chinese students each year, and it's often their only chance at gaining entrance into China's best universities.

South Korea is another country renowned for its intensely competitive college admissions process. The country has a national exam called the Suneung which is taken by high school seniors. The score from the Suneung essentially determines which tier of universities students can apply to. With top tier universities having extremely low acceptance rates, it is no wonder that South Korea often has one of the highest levels of competition worldwide.

However, it's important to note that these tests do not account for aspects like extracurricular activities or holistic qualities which are often significant in U.S admissions. Comparatively, the process in U.S is more complex due to a combination of grade point averages, standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, recommendation letters, and essays. In that respect, you could argue that the U.S. has a uniquely rigorous process as it requires student's excellence and involvement in multiple areas.

In conclusion, it's tough to definitively say which country has the most difficult college entrance process because a lot depends on what aspects you're considering—if it's sheer competitiveness and population size then China could take the crown, but if you're considering the array of factors used for admission, the United States might stand out.
