Contemplating College Majors: Which One is the Most Stressful?

Hey folks. So, I've been doing a bit of thinking about college majors. I know everybody's different, but generally speaking, what's considered the most stressful major to take in college? Is it one of the STEM majors or something else? Appreciate any insights you can give.

Hi there! While it's challenging to categorize any major as categorically the "most stressful", the degree of stress experienced often depends heavily on an individual's abilities, interests, and study habits. However, by considering factors such as workload, complexity of content, and often competing deadlines, certain fields of study tend to be associated with a higher level of stress among students.

Engineering is often cited as a particularly demanding field due to its rigorous coursework, high homework volume, and the extent of mathematical and scientific knowledge required. From civil to mechanical engineering courses, the workload is typically considerable.

Similarly, Medicine, with its intense content and extended study trajectories, can be another major stressor for students. Additionally, medical students typically face high pressure due to the intense competition and the crucial importance of grades for future career placement.

Other majors that could be considered stressful due to rigorous coursework include Physics, Computer Science, and any other majors that incorporate a fair amount of technical or mathematical knowledge.

Humanities and social sciences are not exempt, either. The ever-evolving theories, the precision required in essay writing, and the need for a clear understanding of historical and contemporary issues can add to the pressure.

That being said, it's important to remember that stress can differ dramatically from person to person. For instance, a student who adores math may find a mathematics major a breeze while struggling severely with a literature course. It's important to understand your personal interests and strengths when selecting a major as these can influence the amount of stress you experience.

Finally, remember that university is about a lot more than just your course. Friendship, networking, gaining life skills, and self-discovery are all part of the experience. Consider all these aspects and make informed decisions. Good luck!
