Colleges That Give Most AP Credit

Hey guys, been doing a lot of thinking about my AP credits. I've worked really hard on them and would love to actually USE them in college. Do any of you know which colleges tend to give the most credit for AP courses? Thanks in advance!

Absolutely a valid focus! Making the most of the credits you've already earned can be a smart cost-saving tactic and can also possibly help you to graduate earlier. That being said, it's also important to know that different universities have different policies on accepting AP credit, and it often varies by specific AP subject. For instance, one university might give credit for a score of 4 or 5 in AP English, while another university may require a 5.

Strong research universities usually have more generous AP credit policies as they want students to delve deeper into their fields of interest take up more advanced classes, or maybe even pursue dual majors or minors. The University of Florida and the University of Illinois are known to have generous AP policies, for example.

One other aspect to keep in mind is the specific course for which you're seeking credit. Some universities offer credit for a wider range of AP subjects. Institutions like Stanford, by contrast, might not provide as much credit because they want students to take comparable courses directly through Stanford.

Don't forget to reach out to the admissions offices of your chosen universities or navigate to their specific AP credit policies online for the most straightforward answers.

Lastly, don't forget to consider your major. If you're planning to major in a STEM field and have a ton of AP credits in humanities, those credits may not get you as far, depending on the school's general education requirements and your major's prerequisites.

However, I would also advise you to not base your university choice solely on the AP policies! While it's an important factor to consider, you should also take into account academic and career opportunities, campus culture, location, and other factors.

Hope this helps!
