Oregon Colleges & Scholarships

Hello! I'm from Oregon and considering staying in-state for college. Does anyone know which colleges here give out the most scholarships? Really trying to mitigate the costs. Thanks!

Hello! There are several colleges in Oregon known for providing substantial financial aid packages, which often include scholarships.

1. Oregon State University (OSU): OSU is well-known for offering a variety of scholarships, including the OSU Scholarship for Oregon Residents, which is an application-based scholarship for in-state students.

2. Reed College: Even though private colleges often have higher tuition rates, many, like Reed, offer generous aid packages. Reed College meets 100% demonstrated need of admitted students and around 57% of students receive scholarships from Reed itself.

3. University of Oregon (UO): UO provides many scholarships specifically for Oregon residents. The Summit and Apex Scholarships, in particular, offer substantial awards to in-state students based on their GPA and test scores.

4. Lewis & Clark College: This private institution offers both merit and need-based scholarships. Nearly 99% of students receive some form of financial aid.

5. Willamette University: About 100% of undergraduates at Willamette receive financial aid, with many receiving merit-based scholarships like the Presidential Scholarship and the Willamette Merit Scholarship.

Remember, all colleges will allow you to complete the FAFSA for federal and state aid opportunities. And scholarships aren't the only way to cut down college costs. Work-study programs, for example, could help offset your cost of attendance. It's a good idea to reach out to the financial aid offices at these schools to find out more about their specific financial aid options and the application processes.

Remember to also apply for private scholarships (not affiliated with a specific school), which you might be eligible for based on different characteristics or accomplishments! Numerous businesses, nonprofits, and other organizations offer these, as does your local community or high school. Good luck!
