What kind of teaching positions are usually available in high schools?

I'm seriously thinking about becoming a teacher. Could you guys let me know what types of teaching positions are usually available at the high school level? Like, what subjects usually have the highest demand? Thanks a lot.

Typically, there are teaching positions available in most core subject areas in high schools: English, Math, Science(Such as Biology, Chemistry, and Physics), Social Studies (U.S. History, World History, Psychology, Economics), and Foreign Languages (Like Spanish, French, German, etc).

In response to your question about which subjects usually have the highest demands, it can vary by location and district. However, historically, there seems to be a high demand for Math and Science teachers, especially in areas like Physics and Chemistry. Special Education is another field where the demand often outweighs the supply of qualified teachers.

In addition to traditional academic subjects, high schools often need teachers for specialty areas such as Physical Education, arts (music, drama, art), and vocational and technical programs (examples could be Computer Science, Culinary Arts, Woodwork, etc).

Finally, note that some high schools might also employ teaching staff for Advanced Placement (AP) programs or International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, so if you have specific subject expertise that could be a niche to explore.

It's great you're considering education as a profession! Teaching can be a fulfilling career that brings new challenges and rewards each day. Researching your local school district's needs and keeping an eye on job postings can give you a more specific idea of what's in demand in your area.
