How competitive are the Model UN conferences for high schools?

Hi all. Recently, I have become really interested in joining my school's Model UN team, but I/m a bit nervous about the competition level, especially at conferences. How cutthroat are these Model UN conferences for high schools, and what kind of prep would I need to do to stand out?

Model UN conferences do have a competitive aspect, but it varies significantly based on the event you're participating in. Some are definitely more competitive than others, with large, prestigious conferences tending to be more cutthroat as students vie for top delegate awards.
