Which colleges are considered the most LGBTQ+ friendly?

Hey guys, I'm a part of the LGBTQ+ community and want to ensure that my college experience is inclusive and welcoming. Can you guys recommend colleges that are pretty well known for being LGBTQ+ friendly? What are they doing that makes them more inclusive? Thanks for your help!

Absolutely, there are many colleges famously recognized for being LGBTQ+ friendly and offer a warm, accepting atmosphere for all their students. I'll speak to a few of them:

1. Tufts University

This university works hard to go beyond simply being a safe place for LGBTQ+ students. The university has a Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD) that often collaborates with the LGBT Center to host discussions about intersectionality. They also provide gender-neutral housing options and restrooms, making the campus a welcoming place for students of any gender identity.

2. University of Pennsylvania (UPenn)

UPenn has a long-standing reputation for being LGBTQ+ friendly, with a robust LGBT Center that has been serving the community for over three decades. UPenn also has an active community of student-run groups catering to the varied interests and identities within the LGBTQ+ community. The school also offers gender-neutral housing options.

3. Stanford University

Stanford is renowned for its commitment towards their LGBTQ+ students, with numerous student organizations catered to promoting love and equality across all spectrums. They also have The Markowski-Leach Scholarship fund, which provides scholarships to LGBTQ+ students from certain universities (including Stanford) to encourage them in their academic pursuits.

4. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

MIT offers a variety of resources and services aimed at creating an inclusive and safe campus environment for LGBTQ+ individuals. These include but are not limited to, an LGBTQ+ community lounge, ally training, education programs, and gender-inclusive housing.

5. Harvey Mudd College

Harvey Mudd College has a Queer Resource Center that provides support, advocacy, education, and a defined place for social interaction. Also, students have the option to choose gender-neutral housing.

6. University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

It's the only college in the nation to offer a "LGBT Studies" certificate program, demonstrating its commitment to promoting understanding and knowledge around LGBTQ+ experiences. They also have the UWM LGBT Resource Center, a space to welcome and celebrate all people in their authentic expression of their identities.

Remember, no list can be exhaustive, and many other colleges out there have made significant strides in promoting LGBTQ+ inclusivity on campus. Always reach out to the colleges you're interested in to learn more about their programs and resources specifically for the LGBTQ+ community.
