Spotlight on Cornell College

I've been really intrigued by Cornell College lately. Can anyone tell me what stands out the most from the student perspective, like anything unique about programs, camps, or even college culture?

Cornell College, located in Mount Vernon, Iowa, is unique primarily due to its "One Course At A Time" curriculum. This means that students take and focus on only one course for 3.5 weeks, then take a four-day break before starting the next course. This curriculum allows students to immerse themselves in their subjects without the distractions of juggling multiple classes and assignments. It also allows for more experiential learning opportunities such as field trips, experiments, performances, and other hands-on experiences that might not be feasible in a traditional semester schedule.

Academically, Cornell College offers a wide range of majors and minors, including those in the liberal arts and sciences. The Dimensions Program for Health Professions is particularly well regarded, providing resources and advising for students interested in medical, dental, veterinary, and other health-related graduate programs.

Though it's a smaller institution, student life on campus is vibrant. From intramural sports, to clubs catering to interests ranging from investments to dance, to Greek life, students can find avenues to connect with their peers. There’s a strong sense of community and supportive atmosphere fostered by the residential campus and small class sizes.

Additionally, the school has a rich tradition in athletics and offers numerous intercollegiate, club, and intramural sports. The campus also boasts an impressive fitness center which is free for all students.

The college's Block Plan and strong community make it a distinctive place to study. It tends to attract independent, driven individuals who enjoy diving deep into their studies and being part of a close-knit community.
