Hello everyone, I'm an African-American student applying to colleges and I value representation. So, I'm curious to know, among the D1 colleges, which one has the highest enrollment of African-American students? Many thanks!
Among all Division I colleges, Florida A&M University (FAMU), a historically black university (HBCU), has the highest enrollment of African-American students. These schools were designed with the explicit goal of serving the African-American community, and as such, their student bodies often reflect higher percentages of African-American students.
FAMU, for example, reports that a significant majority of their student body identifies as African-American. To illustrate, in the 2023-24 school year, FAMU reported that 87.4% of its full-time students identified as Black or African-American.
It's important that you find a college where you'll feel comfortable, included, and represented. Keep researching and visiting schools if you can, and talk to actual students to get a feel for the campus climate.
