Most prestigious performing arts high schools?

I'm seriously considering moving toward a career in the performing arts, but I'm not sure where to start with my education. Could anyone provide insight into the most prestigious performing arts high schools? What makes them stand out and why are they so well-regarded in the field?

There are several high schools across the country known for their excellent performing arts programs. Here are a few that are often recognized for their prestige and value in the performing arts field:

1. Interlochen Arts Academy (Michigan): Known as a leader in the arts education, offers rigorous academic classes along with world-class artistic training.

2. Juilliard Pre-College Division (New York): This is the pre-college program tied to the world-renown Juilliard School, offering advanced training programs in Music, Dance, and Drama for students age 8-18.

3. Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (California): This school integrates rigorous academic instruction with high quality arts training. It's known for its incredible location and vast connections to the entertainment industry.

4. The Chicago Academy for the Arts (Illinois): Includes programs in six different disciplines: Music, Theatre, Visual Arts, Dance, Media Arts (film and animation), and Musical Theatre.

5. New World School of the Arts (Florida): It is a public magnet high school and college known for its strong emphasis on dance, theatre, music, and visual arts.

In terms of what makes these schools stand out, it often comes down to the opportunities for practical experience, the quality of instruction, and the connections available in the surrounding arts communities. These high schools have strong relationships with professional organizations and individuals in the field, which often leads to unique performance, internship, and mentorship opportunities for the students.

Further, the success of their alumni can attest to the program's effectiveness. For example, notable alumni of these schools have gone on to reputable conservatories, successful careers in Broadway, film, music, and even won prestigious awards.

However, keep in mind that prestige doesn't always equal the best fit for every student. You should also consider geographic location, the specific strengths of the program in your area of interest, and also if the school is public or private (which affects tuition).
