Number of HBCUs by State

I'm starting to explore colleges and I'm particularly interested in Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). I was wondering, does anyone know which state has the most HBCUs? I'm trying to target my college search to areas with a high concentration of these institutions.

When examining the landscape of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in the United States, it's interesting to note how they're distributed by state. As it stands, the state with the highest number of HBCUs is actually Alabama, boasting 14 such universities. This includes well-known institutions such as Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, and Alabama A&M University, among others.

However, it should not only be about numbers. The state of Georgia, for instance, has a smaller number of HBCUs (around ten), but it is also noteworthy because of its institutions like Spelman College and Morehouse College in Atlanta, which are consistently ranked as top HBCUs.

It's great that you're focusing on HBCUs for your college search. Just remember that, beyond the state they're located in, each institution has its own unique character, culture, programs of study, and admission requirements you'd want to consider. Make sure to research each one and visit their websites to explore the opportunities they offer. A college's fit is about more than its geography or its designation as an HBCU. You should also consider factors such as its size, available majors, extracurricular activities, and financial aid opportunities, among others.
