Sports Scholarships in College

Feeling kind of stressed out about affording college. I play sports, so trying to turn that into an opportunity. Can anyone tell me, out of all the sports, which ones typically get the most scholarships?

You're absolutely right that athletic scholarships can be a significant aid in financing your college education. As per the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association), sports scholarships vary significantly across sports, schools, and divisions (Division I, II, or III).

Football and Basketball are traditionally at the top with the highest number of scholarships, due to the revenue these sports can generate for schools, particularly in Division I.

For example, each Division I Football Bowl Subdivision school can offer 85 full scholarships, and Men's/Women's Basketball teams can offer 15 full scholarships.

However, it's crucial to remember that many other sports also offer scholarships. For instance, Women's D1 Volleyball teams can give out up to 18 full scholarships, while Men's D1 Baseball teams can divide 11.7 scholarships among as many players as they'd like.

Being successful in securing an athletic scholarship requires exceptional performance and commitment to your sport. Because of this, it's often a good idea to focus on a sport you excel in and truly enjoy, rather than one you believe offers the most scholarships. You should also consider other factors, like the university's academic offerings and overall fit, not just the athletic program. Remember, the ultimate goal of college is earning a degree! Good luck with your athletic and academic pursuits!
