Does State College mostly have new or old homes?

Hello. I might be moving to State College for university. I was wondering, does this area mostly consist of older, traditional houses or are there plenty of new homes as well? Any help would be great.

State College has a mix of both old and new homes due to its continuous growth over the years. You'll discover quaint, traditional homes closer to the downtown area, many of which have been maintained quite well over the years and carry that unique charm.

On the other hand, as you begin to move away from the downtown area and towards the outskirts, there are several new developments where you'll find more modern homes. These newer areas have seen development as State College has grown and expanded. The newer homes are more likely to be located in residential subdivisions, while older homes are more concentrated near the university. Often, these older homes will have been converted into apartments or multi-family homes.

Ultimately, whether you'd prefer an older home or a new build will be up to personal preference. If you're looking for more charm and character, an older home might suit you. Conversely, newer homes may come with more modern conveniences and updated systems. It's worth driving or walking around different neighborhoods to see what area and style of home resonate with you.

The good news is, there're plenty of choices for everyone—from undergraduates seeking a shared student house, to professors or employees of the university looking for a family home. State College's real estate portfolio boasts a rich variety in terms of age, size, style, and location, so you should be able to find something that works well for you.
