Major High School Scholarships to Watch out for?

Bit stressed about the financial toll of college. So I was wondering, what are some of the most notable scholarships high school students should apply for to help offset the cost?

Certainly, concern over the cost of college is something many students share, so looking into scholarships early is a smart move. Some national scholarships that high school students can apply for include:

1. Coca-Cola Scholars Program: This scholarship offers 150 awards of $20,000 each. To qualify, students must have at least a 3.0 unweighted GPA and have demonstrated leadership and volunteering experience.

2. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards: For students who have made a significant impact through volunteering. State honorees receive $1,000, while national honorees receive $5,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C.

3. Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarships: The scholarships are open to high school seniors planning to attend a two- or four-year institution. The amount varies.

4. Burger King Scholars Program: This program awards between $1,000 and $50,000, and eligibility is based partly on financial need and work experience, but also academic records and contributions to the community.

5. Regeneron Science Talent Search: For students who have completed independent science research. The top award is a $250,000 scholarship.

6. Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology: This award is for high school students who have completed original research in science or engineering. The grand prize is a $100,000 scholarship.

Remember to also look at each college's financial aid program (particularly if they offer merit scholarships or aid) and investigate local scholarships in your area, as these can be less competitive. Many employers also offer scholarships to their employees or the children of employees. Lastly, signing up for a scholarship database can help you find more opportunities that are specific to your profile.
