Are certain summer high school classes more popular than others?

I am planning on taking a summer class before my senior year and I am wondering what classes are usually the most popular. I'm looking for something that not only will impress colleges but is also fun and engaging. Can anyone share their experiences or thoughts?

Most sought-after summer classes can vary greatly based on individual interests and strengths. However, certain types of courses tend to be particularly popular for various reasons. These are classes that extend or enhance the school year curriculum or offer an exciting exploration of a new subject.

That said, many high school students gravitate towards courses in fields where they sense possible career interests, like business, technology, healthcare, etc. So, typically, if there's a course you're considering that pertains to your potential major or career, it could be a beneficial choice.

Something else to consider: courses offering college preparation. These could be essay writing classes or SAT/ACT prep classes. While they might not be "fun and engaging" in the traditional sense, many students find these extremely beneficial for college admission and worth the time and effort.

In the realm of "fun" classes, those diving into a new language or culture tend to be hits. So are creative writing workshops, acting classes, musical instrument courses, and art history or studio art. These offerings provide a welcome change from the usual academic track and can fuel personal passions.

Remember, the key to selecting an impactful summer class is aligning with both your interests and your academic or career aspirations. What's universally popular may not always be the best fit for you, but studying something you enjoy will intrinsically make the experience more fun and engaging, and the enthusiasm you'll demonstrate might impress colleges more than just following a popular trend.
