Life Skills Lacking in College Freshman?

Just a bit anxious about starting college next year. What are some life skills that you think most incoming college freshmen lack but need to survive in college? Could really use some insights to help me prepare and navigate this new chapter of my life.

One frequent area where many incoming college freshmen tend to lack skills is time management. Unlike high school, where your day is mostly structured, college offers a significant amount of flexibility and autonomy, which can be overwhelming. Knowing how to manage your time effectively, prioritizing tasks, and balancing academic responsibilities with extracurricular activities and leisure can make a significant difference in your college experience and academic success.

Financial management is another area where some students struggle when they first enter college. Many are managing their finances for the first time, and learning how to budget, save, and spend responsibly is a crucial life skill.

Next, the ability to make healthy lifestyle choices is often overlooked. Living on your means you're responsible for your meals, sleep schedule, maintaining physical activity, and making decisions about alcohol and other substances. Remember to prioritize your well-being amid newfound freedom.

Finally, problem-solving skills can be valuable. Challenges will arise, whether they're academic difficulties, personal issues, or conflicts with roommates. Rather than relying on others to jump in for help, being able to navigate such situations can help you succeed and feel more confident in your abilities.

Remember, though, that college is a learning experience, and it's okay not to have everything figured out right from the start. There are resources and services on campus specifically designed to support students, so don't hesitate to use them. Best of luck as you embark on this next adventure!
