The 'Mandatory' College Education?

Why is there this idea that everybody has to go to college? I mean, is there any real justification for it or is it more of a societal pressure kind of thing? I'm hoping to get some varying perspectives on this.

College has been perceived as a crucial step in advancing one's education and securing a stable career, which contributes to why it's often seen as a "mandatory" part of life. The notion that everyone should attend college largely stems from economic data that indicates, on average, individuals with a bachelor's degree or higher tend to earn more and have lower unemployment rates than those with only a high school diploma. Therefore, many people see college as an investment in future career prospects and financial stability.

However, it's crucial to remember that the benefits of a college education may not equally apply to everyone. Career paths vary widely, and some may not necessitate a college degree. For instance, trades such as plumbing, electrical work, or culinary arts often call for vocational training instead of traditional college education.
