Life skills that college freshmen usually lack?

I'm trying to prepare myself as much as I can for college next year. From your experiences, what life skills do you think most incoming college freshman usually lack? I want to start working on these skills now so I'm better equipped when the time comes.

In my experience, there are a few life skills that tend to trip up incoming college freshmen the most:

1. Time Management: College assignments can sometimes seem deceptively manageable, but can quickly snowball if not handled properly. It’s essential to keep a schedule or planner, and try to break down your work so you’re not cramming at the last minute.

2. Budgeting: Living independently often means managing your own finances. Learning to budget your money, be it from your parents, a job, or financial aid, will help you avoid unnecessary financial stress. Remember to account for unexpected expenses like textbooks, supplies, or even a broken phone.

3. Basic Cooking/Cleaning: While many colleges offer meal plans and regular room cleaning, basic culinary skills and cleaning etiquette are essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and good roommate relations.

4. Self-Care: Physical and mental health should be a priority. This means regular meals, exercise, and sleep, as well as seeking help when you're feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Colleges often have health resources available on campus, so familiarize yourself with those.

5. Networking: This might not come naturally to everyone, but being able to network and build relationships with your professors and peers will be invaluable during your college years and beyond.

6. Study Skills: This is probably one you're already aware of, but college coursework will most likely be more challenging than what you experienced in high school, so effective study habits will be key.

Remember, it’s completely normal to feel like you’re struggling with these skills when you first arrive at college. Everyone's in the same boat and learning as they go along. Best of luck in your preparations!
