Why is college the default plan for most high school students?

Hey folks! I've noticed that the majority of my classmates are planning on going to college right after high school. I'm trying to consider all my options, so I'm wondering, why do most teens go to college?

College tends to be the default plan for many high school students for a number of reasons. Firstly, many people view college as a means to greater job opportunities and higher earning potential. Jobs that require a college degree often pay more than jobs that only require a high school diploma. Additionally, certain fields, like medicine, law, and engineering, demand a university degree.

Secondly, college provides exposure to a range of fields and a chance to learn more about a specific interest. Many students might not know what exactly they want to do in the future, and college allows them to explore these interests in more depth, thereby paving the way for future career paths.

Finally, there's also the societal expectation and pressure to attend college. Many families and school systems champion the goal of attending college as the next logical step after high school. The perceived prestige and status associated with earning a college degree is another influential factor.

However, college isn't the only route to a successful life. Alternatives such as trade schools, apprenticeships, entrepreneurship, military service, or entering the workforce directly after high school are equally valid. Ultimately, the best path depends on your personal interests, career goals, and circumstances.
