Are there any high school classes people view as not very useful?

Hey everyone! I've been starting to think about what courses I want to take next year and honestly, it's kind of overwhelming. I don't want to end up in a class that won't benefit me long term. Have there been any classes that you felt were pointless or didn't really prepare you for college or a career?

While it is important to take classes that align with your interests and future goals, it can be hard to know which classes might not be as valuable in the long run.

Though I'm hesitant to categorize any class as "pointless", there are definitely courses that may not have a direct impact in preparing you for college or your career. For example, a home economics class that includes cooking and sewing may not directly prepare you for a career unless you plan on becoming a chef or a fashion designer, but the skills learned can still be valuable in your everyday life.

It also depends on your future path. If you plan on majoring in STEM, you might not see as much value in a class like studio art, but it could certainly be beneficial for a student interested in a career in design or the arts. It all comes down to personal preference and career goals.

Be sure to check out the course description, talk to students who have taken the class before, or consult with a counselor. These resources can provide you with plenty of information about the course content, the difficulty level, and the usefulness of the material, helping you make an informed decision.

Remember, high school is also a chance for you to explore different fields and find your passion. Take advantage of the opportunity to try classes in different subjects. You never know what might spark your interest! You might find an unexpected passion, or at least walk away with a better understanding of a subject outside your normal interest area. In that sense, no education is truly worthless.
