Currently live in Missoula, and am trying to figure out which of the local high schools might have the most tolerant or open-minded student body. It's important to me to go somewhere where diversity (of all sorts) is genuinely celebrated and where I'm less likely to encounter close-mindedness. Any thoughts?
Reflecting on what you're looking for in a high school, there are a couple of schools in Missoula which stand out, based on their commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
First, Hellgate High School might be a good fit. They've cultivated a community that strives for tolerance and inclusivity, shown not only in their diverse student body, but also through extracurriculars such as their Activist Club, which works on social justice initiatives.
Second, Big Sky High School also embraces diversity and promotes a respectful and tolerant community within their student body. They engage a Diversity Club which promotes understanding and inclusivity.
Lastly, Willard Alternative High School Program could be a good fit as well. This school emphasizes personal growth and community involvement, often through projects and initiatives that foster diversity and open-mindedness.
To get a better understanding of these schools, families and students often attend open houses or schedule a school visit. Talking to current students can also give you a unique insight into the school culture.
Remember that every person's experience can vary, so I recommend reaching out to these schools directly, and even considering a visit, to get a feel for the environment yourself.
