Most prestigious high schools in the US - recommendations?

Hi all. I'm starting to look for high schools and would love an idea of which ones across the US have a prestigious reputation. Can anyone give me some names and the reasons why they are considered prestigious? Thanks!

There are several high schools across the US that are known for their rigorous academic programs, talented faculty, and successful alumni. Here are a few:

1. Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire: This boarding school uses the Harkness method of instruction, which is centered around student-led discussion. The school is also well-known for its high matriculation rates to Ivy League schools.

2. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Virginia: TJHSST is a top-ranked public high school which specializes in STEM fields. The school often has students win prestigious STEM competitions and many graduates have impressive academic and professional achievements.

3. Stuyvesant High School in New York: This specialized high school in New York City requires students to pass the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) to gain admission.

4. The Dalton School in New York: Another prestigious school in New York City, Dalton is known for its "Houses" which instill a sense of community and foster relationships between students and faculty.

5. The Harker School in California: Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, this private school is known for its science and technology curriculum. It has smaller class sizes and high Ivy League matriculation rates.

6. Punahou School in Hawaii: As the largest private school in the US, Punahou has a wide range of academic and extracurricular activities. It's perhaps best known for its alumni, former President Barack Obama.

Remember that the prestige of a high school is not the only factor to consider in your educational journey. It is more important to find a school that matches your interests and needs, and where you would be happy and productive. What counts the most is the effort you put into your academics and activities, and making use of the resources available to you, no matter where you study.
