New York High Schools: Largest Student Population?

I've been trying to figure out which New York high school has the most students. Are larger schools more competitive when it comes to college admissions?

The high school with the largest student population in New York is often Brookyln Technical High School, although specifics can change from year to year. It's known for its large student body and is one of the specialized high schools in New York City.

As for your second question, school size doesn't necessarily equate to competitiveness in college admissions. One factor that colleges often look at is class rank, which considers the competitiveness of a student in relation to their peers. Therefore, in a larger school, the upper percentiles might be more densely populated, potentially making a top-ranking position more challenging.

However, aspects such as your GPA, standardized test scores, extracurriculars, essays, and letters of recommendation, also play significant roles in your college application. It's crucial to focus not just on how you rank in your school, but also on these other components of your application.

For reference, top colleges usually want to see students in approximately the top 10% of their high school class, but again, the college application review process considers multiple factors beyond class rank. If you can demonstrate personal growth, leadership, depth in your interests (or a "spike" as some call it), strong letters of recommendation, and how you'd contribute to the college community, you can stand out even from a large and competitive applicant pool.
