What High Schools in the US have a High Ivy League Matriculation Rate?

I'm currently a high school junior trying to plan my academic future. It seems like some high schools might have a higher rate of students being accepted into Ivy League colleges. Does anyone have details about this? Any insight on the matter would be very helpful. Also, is there any strategy or specific extracurricular activities that these schools encourage that I could maybe start now to increase my chances?

Ivy League colleges do not formally publish a list of high schools they accept students from most frequently. However, there are certain high schools, often private, that are known for regularly sending a high portion of their students to Ivy League colleges. These schools can afford a rigorous and diverse course load, often have high-performing faculty, and can provide students with resources for college application preparation and enrichment opportunities. Some reputable examples include Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, Phillips Academy Andover in Massachusetts, and St. Paul's School in New Hampshire, among others.

In terms of strategy, students in these schools often pursue rigorous coursework, such as AP or IB, and are deeply involved in their extracurricular activities. Quality tends to be more important than quantity, so finding a few activities that you're truly passionate about and succeeding in them will likely be more beneficial than joining several clubs merely to fill out your resume.

College admissions, especially in Ivy League institutions, focus on the concept of developing a "spike", which refers to having a highly developed specialty. They want students who have demonstrated exceptional abilities or achievements in a particular area. This could be anything from an academic subject to a particular extracurricular activity or passion project.

Many students from these high schools stand out by attaining high achievements within their area of focus which can range from leadership roles in clubs and activities, competing and winning awards in academic or sports competitions, notable volunteering or internship experiences, or advocating for an important social issue.

While these are common characteristics, it's important to remember that success in college admissions is not simply about replicating the actions of previous successful applicants. It's about demonstrating who you are as a person, making the most of your own unique opportunities, and pursuing your genuine interests. If an Ivy League education is your goal, consider how you can make your own "mark" and stand out among a large pool of talented students.
