Can I Switch from Engineering to CS at Cornell?

Hey guys, I'm considering applying to Cornell for engineering, but there's a chance I might discover that I'm more interested in computer science. Is it easy to change majors there?

Hello! Switching majors within colleges, including from engineering to computer science, is generally possible at most institutions, including Cornell. However, the process can vary based on whether the majors are within the same college or in different ones.

If you were to start in the College of Engineering at Cornell and then decide you want to major in Computer Science, you would be in luck because the Computer Science major belongs to both the College of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences. So, switching wouldn't be as complicated because you'd technically still be within the same college (College of Engineering) and wouldn't need to go through an internal transfer.

What you would need to do is complete the necessary Computer Science major requirements. It's always a good idea to touch base with your academic advisor as soon as possible when you're considering a major change. They can guide you on course selection to ensure you meet the major requirements and discuss how a switch might affect your four-year graduation plan.

Please bear in mind that policies can vary and may change between application cycles, so it's always a good idea to check the most current information on the official website or contact the university's admissions office directly for accurate advice.
