Advice for Georgetown supplemental essays?

Hello all! I am working on my Georgetown applications and was wondering if anyone could give some advice on writing the supplemental essays? What should I focus on or avoid? Appreciate any suggestions!

For Georgetown's supplemental essays, each prompt has a specific question and focus. Your task is to thoughtfully respond in a way that highlights your fit for Georgetown.

1. The first essay is essentially asking about your major choice. Explain why the major interests you, but more importantly, connect it back to how you plan to utilize Georgetown's resources, courses, and the specific location in D.C. to help you achieve your academic/professional goals.

2. The second essay is about Georgetown's Jesuit values. Here, they want to see how you embody these values and how you plan on applying them during your time at Georgetown and beyond. Be sure to research Jesuit values and tie in a personal experience that demonstrates your understanding and commitment to these values.

3. For the third essay, think about an issue that deeply impacts you, and write about it. However, you also want to demonstrate your understanding that change often requires collaboration, compromise, and adaptation to differing perspectives.

It's important to avoid generic descriptions and sentiments. Make sure your essays are personal, unique, and thoughtful, and show deep reflection and analysis. Try to avoid cliche topics like a sports victory or an immigrant's tale, unless you can put a very personal spin on it. Also, avoid trying to impress with high-flown vocabulary or complex syntax; your genuine voice should shine through.

Remember, Georgetown values students who are dedicated, empathetic, curious, and intellectually rigorous. Demonstrate these qualities and convincingly show how you'll contribute to the Georgetown community, and your essays will surely stand out. Good luck!
