Should I go EDII?

I'm really interested in applying to some schools, and they have an Early Decision II option. Is it worth it to apply EDII? What are the pros and cons? Would love some advice from someone who's been through this process.

Sure, I'd be more than happy to help you understand the pros and cons of applying Early Decision II (EDII). Here are some points to consider:

Pros:

1. Higher Acceptance Rates: Schools usually have higher acceptance rates for Early Decision applicants as compared to Regular Decision, hence, increasing your chances of being admitted.

2. Decisions are provided earlier: If accepted, you'd get to know your college destination much earlier. This can relieve a lot of stress.

3. Demonstrated Interest: By applying under a binding decision plan, you are showing the institution that they're your top choice, which some colleges appreciate.

Cons:

1. Binding: Early Decision is binding, meaning you commit to attend the institution if accepted. This restricts you from comparing financial aid packages from other institutions.

2. Financial Aid: Because it's binding, you'll need to prepare by using their Net Price Calculator to ensure the school is affordable for you and your family. While ED agreements can potentially be broken for financial reasons, it's generally not recommended to rely on that option.

3. Time: The deadlines for ED II tend to be in early January, which could coincide with Regular Decision deadlines for other schools.

It would be best if you used Early Decision if you are sure the college is your top choice and you have adequately estimated the financial component. You need to be sure that even if you get into another school you might love with a better aid package during the Regular Decision round, you're still content with your top choice school.

Remember, making the decision to apply EDII shouldn't be taken lightly, and you should have thorough discussions with your family and guidance counselor before you decide to proceed. Good luck!
