What's the scoop on UT Austin's Supplemental Essays?

Hi everyone! Planning to apply to UT Austin but I'm struggling to find details about their supplemental essays. Can somebody enlighten me? Thanks in advance.

Sure, I can help with that. As of the 2024-2025 application cycle, the University of Texas at Austin requires three essays from all applicants.

The first is a response to one of seven short-answer topics, such as "Why are you interested in the major you indicated as your first-choice major? Discuss the reasons you chose the major and how it connects to your long-term goals." These short answers are limited to 250-300 words.

The second is another short response around 250-300 words about which extracurricular activity you are most proud of and why that is the case.

The third required essay is the standard ApplyTexas essay, which gives you a choice between three prompts. Each of these essays should be between 500 and 700 words in length.

Prompt A: "Tell us your story. What unique opportunities or challenges have you experienced throughout your high school career that have shaped who you are today?"

Prompt B: "Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story."

Prompt C: "Describe your academic and career plans and any special interest (for example, undergraduate research, academic interests, leadership opportunities, etc.) that you are eager to pursue as an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin."

I'd advise picking the prompt you feel you can write the most compelling essay for and also keep in mind that these essays are a chance for you to further distinguish yourself from other applicants. Use specific examples and focus on showcasing your personality, values, and aspirations. Good luck!
