Insight on AP World Exam Calculation?

Hello everyone, I'm aiming for a high score on my AP World exam this year. Anyone familiar with how the AP World exam score gets calculated?

Absolutely, happy to help. When it comes to AP exams, including AP World History, the scoring is pretty much the same. Here's a general breakdown:

Each AP exam has two sections: multiple-choice (MCQs) or grid-ins and free response. For AP World, you would have multiple choice questions and free response questions (FRQs) which include Short Answer Questions (SAQs), a Document-Based Question (DBQ), and a Long Essay Question (LEQ).

For the AP World History Exam:

- 40% of your score comes from the MCQ section, which consists of 55 questions.

- 20% comes from the SAQ section, which consists of 3 questions.

- 25% comes from one DBQ, which asks you to analyze seven documents related to a particular issue or topic.

- The remaining 15% comes from a LEQ where you pick and answer one of three essay prompts.

Once you've taken the exam, your responses are scored by exam readers. Each portion of the FRQ section is scored separately, but MCQs are graded by machine. These scores are then converted into the AP scale score of 1-5 by the CollegeBoard.

In terms of actual numbers, there isn't a set number of points you need to score a 5 because the exact numbers can fluctuate year by year depending on student performance. This is to ensure that a 5 this year means the same as a 5 from previous years even if the exam difficulty varies.

Remember, pace yourself, review as much as possible, and focus on understanding the major trends and connections between different time periods and regions, not just memorizing facts. Good luck with your studies!
