Converting ACT score to SAT Equivalent

Hey folks, a bit puzzled here. Say I've taken both the ACT and SAT. I've heard about this ACT to SAT conversion; can anyone kindly clarify how this works? And does this conversion system remain the same year after year?

Absolutely, the process of converting your ACT score to its SAT equivalent involves specific data tables released by the test-authoring companies themselves, College Board (for the SAT) and ACT, Inc. They produce these concordance tables that show score equivalents across both tests.

Let's say you have an ACT composite score of 30. According to the 2018 official concordance table (the most recent as of now), this correlates to an SAT score range of 1330-1350. It's important to mention that the exact SAT score can't be pinpointed due to the different content and structure of each test, so a range is the best estimation.

Each table shows the SAT's section scores (Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math) on one axis and the ACT's composite score on the other. You can cross reference your ACT score to find the corresponding SAT score, or vice versa.

In terms of whether the conversion system remains the same year after year, it mostly does. But when major changes are made to either test, new concordance tables are produced to reflect those changes, such as when the SAT was overhauled in 2016. Therefore, always refer to the most recent tables for the most accurate conversions. As of now, there has been no indication that any significant changes will occur soon to warrant a new conversion table, but it's always a good idea to keep an eye out for updates.
