I'm a highschooler and interested in exploring Education as a career. So, I'm thinking of doing a summer internship at a kindergarten. Does anybody have experience with this or know of any programs that accept high school students?
Great to hear you're thinking ahead about your career and exploring opportunities in education. High school students can certainly seek internships at kindergartens, however, instead of a formal "internship", many kindergartens and elementary schools are open to enthusiastic volunteers who want to help in the classroom. Volunteering may offer similar insights to an internship as you assist teachers, help create learning materials, and interact with students.
Another suggestion is to check out local summer programs or organizations related to early childhood education. They might have internship positions or short-term work that allow you to get a feel for the field.
What is important here is to gain exposure and experience while demonstrating commitment and passion for education. Independent of the title of the experience, these qualities can be developed and refined in many different settings so don’t be afraid to think creatively!
Finally, make sure to set aside some time to reflect on these experiences, documenting what you learned and the impact it had on your career aspirations. This will be especially useful when writing college application essays or interviewing for future study programs or jobs in education.
